New attendance zones and feeder patterns in Judson ISD will be in effect during the 2025-26 school year.

What you need to know

According to the agenda of the Dec. 19 meeting, the following recommendations were made for the attendance zones:
  • Rolling Meadows: Entire Retama Springs subdivision at Kentucky Ridge to include a smaller subdivision south of Retama Springs at Lookout Road near Creekside Hill rezoned to Selma Elementary.
  • Coronado Village: Relocate all administration, staff and students to Selma Elementary. Dual language program also would be moved to the new elementary school.
  • Wortham Oaks: Keep the Spanish Immersion Program to accommodate 25 students at the entry of the program, allowing for attrition.
  • Copperfield: A portion rezoned to Converse Elementary would include 95 students in a triangular area including South Seguin Road, North Seguin Road/Kneupper Road and FM 78.
  • Escondido: A portion rezoned to Elolf would include 245 students located south of Walzem Road to include the Norte 8833 Apartments and Liberte Preserve and Liberte Creek subdivisions.
Changes to the middle school feeder patterns include moving students from Candlewood Elementary from Metzger Middle to Kirby Middle, and moving students from Park Village Elementary from Kirby Middle to Woodlake Hills Middle.

Alongside these changes, JSTEM will be relocated to Kitty Hawk Middle. Under the new feeder patterns, each high school within the district would have two schools flowing into them composed of:
  • Wagner High School fed by Kirby Middle and Metzger Middle
  • Judson High School fed by Judson Middle and Woodlake Hills Middle
  • Veterans Memorial High School fed by Cibolo Creek Middle and Kitty Hawk Middle
What they’re saying

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Daniel Brooks said a decision for the repurposing of Coronado has not been made as of the meeting, and a Growth and Planning meeting will be held in January to discuss options for the facility.

During the meeting, parents, students and staff shared concerns about the ending of the Spanish Immersion Program at Wortham Oaks, JSTEM students relocating to a new campus and other changes to programs that would impacts students and families.

The board of trustees decided to keep the Spanish Immersion Program rather than sunsetting it after current students have completed the program.

Members of the community also asked about the possibility of keeping eighth grade JSTEM students at Judson Middle School while moving sixth and seventh grade students.

District staff said to keep eighth grade JSTEM students at Judson Middle School while relocated sixth and seventh grade students to Kitty Hawk Middle School would cost the district around $500,000 in upkeep, due to the replicating of the program at two campuses and the cost of transportation.

Trustee José Macias said difficult choices need to be made to ensure the district is in the best position to support the community and give students the resources they need to succeed, especially at the middle school level.

“There are hard decisions that need to be made, and the expenditure of nearly $500,000 is a lot of money to consider,” Macias said.
