More than 160 schools across north and northeast San Antonio were recognized with the Purple Star Campus Designation.

Across four school districts, Judson ISD had four campuses recognized, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD had nine, North East ISD had 52 and Northside ISD had 105.

The overview

Established by Governor Gregg Abbott in 2019, the Purple Star Campus Designation program recognizes Texas public schools for their efforts to support and meet the needs of military-connected students and their families, according to the Texas Education Agency.

To receive the Purple Star Campus Designation, schools must:
  • Designate a campus-based military liaison
  • Create and maintain an easily accessible webpage that includes information for military-connected students and their families
  • Institute a campus transition program for military-connected students
  • Support a military family assistance initiative

For the 2024-25 school year, a total of 541 campuses across Texas met the established criteria for the designation, which is a 202% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the TEA.
