The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board of trustees on Aug. 29 approved a 2.3% increase to transportation pay.

The overview

District staff said this change is to encourage retention and hiring in the transportation department, where there is a shortage of drivers.

The increase changes the starting hourly pay for drivers from $17.95 to $18.37, making SCUCISD more competitive with other districts.

Alongside the increase in starting pay, incentives added to the compensation plan for drivers include:
  • $1,000 annual retention incentive to CDL, or commercial driver’s license, drivers
  • $500 safe driving incentive after 150 hours
  • $500 incentive for perfect attendance
  • $2,000 for new CDL drivers
  • $500 for drivers without a CDL
  • $500 incentive 60 days after receiving a CDL
Trustees unanimously supported the compensation changes.
