The Judson ISD elementary school being constructed in Selma has been named as of the Aug. 15 board of trustees meeting. Trustees unanimously decided on the name Selma Elementary School.

The details

In July, a survey was posted to request community feedback on name suggestions for the campus.

Responses included names such as Retama Elementary and Selma Elementary being suggested from the community.

According to a Judson ISD policy, schools must be named after the residential community, geographic area or feature of the neighborhood, the local municipality, or to honor an outstanding person who has attained educational prominence in the district.

What’s else?

Construction on the project has been underway since February, with an expected completion date prior to the start of the 2025-26 school year.

The project is funded through bonds supported by voters in 2022 in the amount of $48.38 million.

This is the second school named by the board of trustees in 2024 as Cibolo Creek Middle School was announced in March.
