Judson ISD staff is looking for stakeholder feedback on the naming of the new elementary school being constructed in Selma.

The details

A survey is open through Aug. 9 at 11:59 p.m., allowing anyone in the district to provide a suggestion for the name of the new school.

According to a Judson ISD policy, schools must be named after the residential community, geographic area or feature of the neighborhood, the local municipality, or to honor an outstanding person who has attained educational prominence in the district.

The final decision on the naming of the school will be determined by the board of trustees, and the decision will not be based on the number of submissions.

What else?

In 2022, JISD voters supported a $345 million bond for safety and security as well as the construction of new facilities, which included the construction of the elementary school in Selma at Retama Parkway.

On Feb. 8, the board of trustees approved the bid rankings for the construction of the new school, with Nunnelly General Contractor having the lowest bid of $48.38 million.

Construction on the nearly 60,000-square-foot campus is expected to be complete by July 2025, in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year, according to district staff.
