Applications for the 2024 Hal Baldwin Scholarship are now being accepted.

The background

According to Schertz officials, Baldwin served as an assistant city manager, a civic volunteer, a City Council member and mayor over the course of around 30 years.

This scholarship is directed at high school seniors to encourage a career in public service. The scholarship may be used for tuition or other fees or expenses for any accredited postsecondary school that offers courses, degrees or other training suitable to a public service career, according to the city website.

Students interested in the scholarship will need to submit a resume, two statements, two essays and letters of recommendation as well as attend City Council meetings, according to the application.

Applications for the scholarship can be found online or picked up at the following locations:

  • City Hall, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Bldg. 1
  • Civic Center Office, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Bldg. 5
  • Schertz Public Library, 798 Schertz Parkway
