Judson ISD will host a public hearing Sept. 21 to set the tax rate for fiscal year 2023-24.

The proposed rate is $1.0346 per $100 valuation, which is a decrease from the FY 2022-23 rate of $1.22 per $100 valuation.

According to the public hearing notice presentation, a home that has an assessed value of $220,000 with the $40,000 homestead exemption will result in the homeowners paying an estimated $1,862 in taxes to Judson ISD.

However, a proposal to increase the homestead exemption to $100,000 will be on the November ballot. Should this new exemption pass, the estimated taxes for a $220,000 home would be $1,241 for Judson ISD.

Estimated values change depending on assessed home value and other exemptions homeowners may qualify for.

The public hearing will be held prior to the board of trustees meeting, beginning at 6 p.m. Meetings are held in the ERC Board Room, located at 8205 Palisades Drive, Live Oak.
