The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 17 approved the 2023-24 academic calendar.

SCUCISD is designated as a District of Innovation, which gives the district a statutory exemption that allows the first day of school to be prior to the fourth Monday in August.

The first day of school under the new calendar will be Aug. 15, and the last day will be May 31, 2024.

According to Deputy Superintendent Damon Edwards, the goals for the new calendar were to give students 180 days of instruction and ensure the holidays important to the community are days off.

“Campus staff have a 187-day contract,” he said. “We were trying to get a 180 [day] student calendar as well, so there is not a lot of wiggle room and a lot of days to play with.”
