The Judson ISD board of trustees on Jan. 19 held a discussion about the capacity of campuses within the district.

District 4 Trustee José Macias asked about open enrollment to students who are outside of the attendance zone and how the district plans to alleviate overcrowding.

Interim Superintendent Milton “Rob” Fields III said district officials hope to implement an enrollment window rather than open enrollment for students outside of the attendance zone.

“We should still be an open enrollment district,” Fields said. “I think the way that we implemented it, wide open all year long is something that we wouldn’t do if we had the opportunity again.”

Judson ISD has 25,857 students enrolled with 1,316 of those students living outside of the attendance zone.

Fields said the new enrollment windows for students living outside of the attendance zone will begin in July.
