On Sept. 15, the Judson ISD board of trustees approved an amendment to the 2022-23 instructional calendar to make Nov. 8 a student holiday and staff development day.

This change is due to multiple campuses around the district being used as voting sites, and having a student holiday would better ensure the safety and security of students, according to Superintendent Jeanette Ball.

Trustee Debra Eaton agreed in the sentiment to ensure student safety and said it would be a concern to have students at the schools while campuses are open for voters throughout the day.

“I wanted to thank Dr. Ball and the staff for this change, because I had a great deal of concern about the security part of that, being that so many schools, tentatively 11 of them, are going to be used as voting facilities,” Eaton said.

Trustee Suzanne Kenoyer suggested adding the day as an annual holiday going forward, which Ball said she would have the committee look into.
