The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board of trustees unanimously approved June 21 a fiscal year 2022-23 compensation package that brings pay raises across the board for administrators, teachers and staff.

Administrative personnel, such as principals, assistant and associate principals, will see a 1.5% increase from the midpoint of each pay grade. Beginning teacher salaries for those with zero years of experience will begin at $53,200, according to a presentation given to board members.

The district’s teachers, counselors, nurses, clerical staff and others will get a 2.5% increase from the midpoint of each pay grade.

As part of the overall compensation package, trustees also approved a one-time $500 retention bonus—minus taxes—to be paid on Jan. 27, 2023, for all employees who meet the eligibility requirements.

The compensation deliberations included market adjustments that were made based on market analysis, a salary and stipend study performed by the Texas Association of School Boards, and comparisons to other area districts.

Those adjustments increased some workers’ salaries, such as instructional assistants, custodians and child nutrition workers, by as much as 10%-20%, school officials said. Adjustments for those paraprofessionals and auxiliary staff exceed $900,000.
