The city of Schertz on March 8 announced applications for the 2022 Hal Baldwin Scholarship are now being accepted.

According to Schertz officials, Hal Baldwin served the city for 30 years. During that time, Baldwin held positions as assistant city manager, civic volunteer and City Council member, and he also served for nearly 17 years as mayor.

This scholarship is for high school seniors to encourage a career in public service. The scholarship may be used for tuition or other fees or expenses for any accredited postsecondary school that offers courses, degrees or other training suitable to a public-service career.

Students interested in the scholarship will need to submit a resume, two statements, two essays and letters of recommendation, and attend City Council meetings. The awarded amount and winner(s) of the scholarship will be determined by a scholarship committee following the application deadline.

Applications must be received in the city manager’s office by April 29 at 5 p.m. Applications and more information on the scholarship can be found on the city website.
