Since 2021, Sip Wine Garden has offered a welcoming retreat in Cibolo one glass at a time.

The background

Co-owner Jessica Sanchez said she and her husband, J.R., were on a date in Fredericksburg visiting wineries.

“We were dating at the time and he took me to Fredericksburg, and he was trying to wow me," Sanchez said. “I was 21 and knew nothing about wine, but I fell in love with the creation process behind it.”

Sanchez said the idea of starting her own wine bar became a passion project.

“We’re very family oriented and I love that many vineyards are family owned. I knew I wanted to invest in something that can be passed down.”

On the menu

Sanchez said her vision for Sip Wine Garden was to support small-scale vineyards.

“80 percent of our wine is from small production and can’t be found in retail stores," she said. “I really take pride in learning about family-owned wines and the stories behind them.”

A popular choice is the Mosketto, a sweet red wine. The wine bar offers 60 different options of white and red wines like the sweet Llano pinot grigio, which Sanchez said is a safe choice for beginners who don’t like dry wines. The menu also offers wine flights for those wanting to sample different flavors.

Food items include a wide selection of shareable charcuterie boards, flatbread pizzas like El Classico–made of mozzarella cheese, fresh basil and salami topped with spicy hot honey.

Why it matters

Sanchez said she is passionate about making wine approachable and not intimidating for customers.

Sip Wine Garden also hosts events and workshops to support other local businesses. In the near future, she wants to serve cocktails and a wider selection of drinks.
