A new restaurant and entertainment venue has made its home in Cibolo, offering ax throwing and pizza.

Owner Spencer Birtciel opened Axeshack on Oct. 28 after working in the entertainment industry.

Using assets from the restaurant previously in the space, Birtciel said he was able to get assistance from the landlord of the retail development to help start Axeshack.

“The landlord has really been the most pivotal part of all of this,” Birtciel said.

On the menu

The menu at Axeshack focuses on pizzas as a main course but also offers appetizers, salads, desserts and beverages.

Popular pizzas at the restaurant include the Kick-Axe Supreme, featuring meat and vegetable toppings, and the Pepperoni Fury, featuring pepperoni and hot honey.

The restaurant offers a selection of 12 pizzas, which can all have the crust customized to be thin and crispy, soft and fluffy, cauliflower or calzone style, Birtciel said. Online ordering is also available at the restaurant.

“It is all fresh-made dough, fresh-made sauce, and we have a full cocktail bar with a lot of Western Son [vodka],” Birtciel said.

More details

While the menu is one of the main appeals for Axeshack, the business also offers ax throwing games for groups to enjoy.

Each lane at Axeshack supports six people and features games like Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect Four and other party games.

For those looking to have a group outing, the business offers packages for groups of 50-plus people.

Lanes can be reserved in advance prior to visiting the venue.

Alongside ax throwing, Birtciel is rolling out specials throughout the week, including a ladies' night every Monday and a board game night every Tuesday. Starting on March 5, Tuesdays will also have trivia, Birtciel said.

Events and promotions are updated on the business's website and social media pages.

“It is still the first year, so we are trying to lay down the foundation of what works this year and what could work next year,” Birtciel said.

Moving forward

Since Axeshack opened, Birtciel has been focused on growing the identity of the business and making it an enjoyable place for employees and the community to enjoy a day or night out.

“I want to provide a good place for my employees because a lot of them followed me from my previous job,” Birtciel said. “But I also want to provide an enjoyable place to Cibolo, because this is a small town, and I don’t want to go to [San Antonio] to find something fun.”
