The Cibolo senior program celebrated its one-year anniversary Feb. 14.

Cibolo Mayor Mark Allen said the program has received tremendous support and momentum over the last year and has become a tool for senior residents to stay active.

“It is a fantastic program that gets so many senior citizens off the couch and out of the house, and they can come over here and spend some time with others and socialize,” Allen said.

Prior to the Cibolo program, residents would have to drive to Schertz for senior activities. Since the program started, it has gained 194 members.

The program is a partnership between the city of Cibolo and the Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation.

Senior Center Administrator Stephanie Whitson said the success of the center comes from the participants, volunteers and sponsors who work together to keep the program running.

The program runs on weekdays and is open to all community residents age 50 and older.

Events are held at the Grange Hall, 413 N. Main St., Cibolo.
