Schertz City Council on Jan. 24 approved a reorganization of city staff and operations, which was presented by City Manager Steve Williams.

According to a Jan. 27 release, the approved reorganization is part of Williams’ efforts to better align the city as the leadership team determines goals and sets a vision for the future.

Some departments have been shifted to consolidate related functions, and a new internal services department has been created.

With the changes, the city is anticipated to save approximately $120,000 annually through salary savings, according to the release.

Under the reorganization, Deputy City Manager Brian James now oversees engineering, public works, planning and community development, the economic development corporation, and internal services.

Assistant to the City Manager Sarah Gonzalez was promoted to the vacant assistant city manager position, which oversees finance, library, parks and recreation, public affairs and human resources.
