The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board of trustees Jan. 17 approved a resolution to authorize the superintendent and his representative to enter into a real estate sale contract with the city of Schertz and authorize the president of the board of trustees to execute the deed and other documents necessary to effect the conveyance of the property.

This agenda item was discussed by the city of Schertz in a Dec. 8 workshop, where city staff recommended the acquisition of the 31 acres of property, which is located off Wiederstein Road east of Schertz Parkway.

Should the city acquire the property, the plan is to use a portion of it for the construction of Fire Station No. 4, which is to be funded by a $15.4 million bond that passed in 2021.

SCUCISD Chief Financial Officer Brian Moy said the area was purchased by the district to have extra land, but the area was not suitable for a new school.

“Now the city has plans for it, a fire station, and even if they do not need 31 acres for a fire station, they understand that we wouldn’t be so agreeable to parsing out 7 or 8 acres of it,” Moy said.
