The meeting included numerous comments from the community about the initiative that Boyle has taken during his time as mayor, including comments from Schertz Mayor Ralph Gutierrez, who complimented Boyle on his friendship and dedication to the area.
“You have been a great friend and you have made a great impact on the community, and you will be greatly missed by everyone,” Gutierrez said to Boyle.
Boyle’s accomplishments as mayor include the creation of events such as Cibolo Summer Night’s and the Honoring our Nation’s Veterans Pow Wow.
Boyle also helped spearhead the rehabilitation of Cibolo Valley Drive, FM 1103 and he helped protest a proposed toll road that would have run through the city connecting I-10 t oI-35.
“We have added about 3,500 jobs in the last five years, and we are at 36,000 people, and we [talked to] H-E-B and they are adding another 430 jobs in the city,” Boyle said.
Boyle attributed his success to the support from his family, constituents, city staff and City Council.
Boyle ended his time as mayor after taking a plea deal in April for charges of aggravated perjury and tampering with a government document with intent to defraud.
The council voted to canvass the votes from the Jan. 3 run-off election, making District 5 Council Member Mark Allen the new Mayor of Cibolo.
Allen acknowledged Boyle's volunteer work and dedication to his position as mayor, which he held for five years.
“In 2017, Stosh ran for mayor of Cibolo and, against all odds, defeated the sitting mayor of Cibolo,” Allen said. “The deck was stacked against him, but he rolled up his sleeves and worked for what he believed in.”
Allen said he is thankful to the voters of Cibolo for electing him as the new mayor, and he aims to do his best to continue the legacy that Boyle left behind.
“There will be a lot of choices to made here in this mayor seat,” Allen said. “And I take it very seriously, the trust that has been bestowed in me by the citizens of Cibolo.”
