Officials with the city of Schertz and the Public Works department say maintaining roads, drainage channels and other infrastructure is a high priority as the new year begins.

In support of that priority, city officials plan monthly street sweeping as a preventative maintenance measure and are sharing with residents the monthly schedule, the city announced on its Facebook page.

Street sweepers clean about 163 miles of streets each month, according to the city’s website. The city is also responsible for maintaining 180.40 acres of drainage, 118.7 acres of right-of-ways and another 5.15 acres of alleyways.

In order to maintain streets and roadways, city officials ask residents not to dump, push, sweep or blow yard debris and waste into city streets. This includes leaves, tree limbs and brush.
