Construction on the Heroes Memorial, which is to be located at the entrance of Selma City Hall, began Sept. 6.

The memorial will honor veterans as well as first responders, EMS and others who serve and protect the area.

According to City Administrator Johnny Casias, the project has an estimated cost of $835,000 which is funded through the Capital Construction Fund from the issuance of certificates of obligation bonds in 2019.

Casias said the project has been in the making for years, and the city is excited to have it started.

“This is a project that has been years in the making, and we feel it’s our community’s way of showing respect, honor and tribute to our heroes,” he said. “We thank those in our community that have supported this project, and we look forward to this Heroes Memorial being a staple for our community.”

The project is estimated to be completed by the end of the year.
