Filing for a place on the ballot for the Nov. 8 general election began July 25.

In Schertz, the mayor position, which is held by Ralph Gutierrez, will be on the ballot alongside Place 1 council member, held by Mark Davis, and the vacant Place 2 council member position.

According to the Schertz city charter, applicants for the mayor and each council member must have attained the age of 18 or older on the first day of the term of office applied for, be a registered voter of the city of Schertz and have been a resident of the city for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the deadline for filing for an application for a place on the ballot.

Those interested in applying for the select positions will need to fill out the candidate packet, which is available in the city secretary’s office at 1400 Schertz Parkway, Bldg. 2, Schertz.

The packet can also be found online. Questions regarding the application should be directed to the city secretary’s office at 210-619-1030.

The city of Cibolo will have four positions on the ballot, including the mayor position, which is held by Stanley “Stosh” Boyle. Due to a guilty plea in April, Boyle is ineligible to run in the November race, meaning Cibolo will have a new mayor following the canvassing of votes in November.

Council Districts 2, 3 and 7, held by Victor Osorio, Reggie Bone and Joel Hicks, respectively, will also be available for candidate applications.

According to the Cibolo city charter, applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the election for which they are filing; be a qualified voter; have resided within the corporate limits of the city, or recently annexed territory, and their district for at least 12 months prior to the filing date; and shall have their primary residence within the limits of the city of Cibolo.

The charter also states no candidate may file in a single election for more than one elective office or position, and no employee of the city shall continue in such position after filing for an elective city office.

Candidate packets can be picked up at the city of Cibolo Municipal Building, 200 S. Main St., Cibolo. Additional election information can be found on the city elections website or by calling 210-566-6111.

Applications for Schertz and Cibolo are due by 5 p.m. on Aug. 22.
