The city of Schertz on June 16 announced Fire Chief Kade Long will be retiring effective June 30.

According to the release, Long joined the city of Schertz in August 2015 as the assistant fire chief and was promoted to fire chief in 2017.

During Long’s time as fire chief, he oversaw multiple projects, including the development of Fire Station No. 3, overseeing the operations of the COVID-19 vaccination clinics and implementing new practices that help improve response times

Following the announcement of Long's retirement, the city also announced Greg Rodgers will become the new fire chief effective July 1.

According to the city, Rodgers began his career in the city of Hollywood Park in 1983 as a volunteer firefighter. Rodgers joined the city of Schertz as the assistant fire chief in 2019 and brings over 35 years of demonstrated leadership and fire service experience.
