The city of Live Oak announced March 21 the Live Oak Junior Police Academy will return June 13-17.

This program invites local students ages 9-12 to meet police officers and other public service workers over the course of the week while touring the Live Oak Justice Center, the animal control center and the dispatch center.

According to program information, students will have an opportunity to have a dialogue discussing the role of gangs, alcohol, drugs, violence, guns, self-esteem and the need to establish important goals.

While there is no fee for participating in the program, the maximum class size is 40 students with Live Oak residents having priority.

The application deadline is May 2. Applications can be found at the Live Oak Justice Center, located at 8002 Shin Oak Drive, Live Oak, or on the city website.
