During the March 22 Schertz City Council meeting, City Manager Mark Browne announced his retirement with his last day being Nov. 23.
Browne has served 17 years in municipal government, and he has been the Schertz city manager since January 2019. Prior to his time in Schertz, he served seven and a half years as city manager of Alamo Heights and six years as city manager in Terrell Hills.
According to the city, during Browne’s time in Schertz, he has overseen the construction and opening of Fire Station No. 3, the renovation and opening of a new fleet facility, and increases in staff wages; he has also led the team through challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and Winter Storm Uri.
Mayor Ralph Gutierrez expressed appreciation for the service Browne has provided the city and wished him the best in his retirement.
“I want to sincerely express my gratitude to Mark Browne for his service to the city of Schertz as our city manager,” Gutierrez said. “His dedication and passion have been evident in everything he has done. I wish him and his family the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
