TruLight127 Ministries, a local nonprofit organization serving foster families and children in the San Antonio metro, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in June.

The background

Headquartered in Seguin, TruLight provides adoption and fostering services plus care for children and families throughout Bexar and Comal counties.

“Really, we serve Bexar County and the 27 counties surrounding it,” Founder Sondra Ajasin said.

Ajasin, who started the nonprofit in June 2015, said that she has seen a lot of change in the last decade and that more people are beginning to volunteer.

“People are stepping up more to do more for kids that are in foster care and finding out-of-the-box ideas,” Ajasin said.

The details

TruLight works with children in foster care, helping find foster families and adoptive homes for them to have a safe place to stay, Ajasin said.

They also have a group home in Seguin where children can temporarily stay while being connected with a new family.

In the future, Ajasin hopes to increase focus on the mental health of foster children, as well as supporting families before children must go into foster care.

“We’re really going to put a lot of focus on mental health and behaviors, supporting families and supporting staff,” Ajasin said.

Ajasin said that the number one priority, though, is keeping children safe.
