The two bought their current location along South Main Street and renovated it to be a place for cigar lovers to relax and talk to people of similar interest. With the low cost of living and growing economy in Cibolo, the partners said they feel the city will see further growth soon, and they want their business to be a part of that growth.
1911 Cigars is veteran-owned, and Greg said he found his love for cigars during his deployment.
“My love for cigars came from being stationed in Iraq,” Greg said. “A lot of times, after work, we would kick back to smoke cigars and stuff like that. I came back from Iraq in 2009, and I still had a passion and love for cigars.”
Greg said many guests and members take advantage of the outside patio and cabana rentals behind the shop, where they can enjoy a cigar while watching sports on the TV or a live event in the stage area.••While many cigar shops close in the late evening, Williams said 1911 Cigars wanted to appeal to cigar lovers who had to work late and wanted a place to relax after hours.
“A lot of these places were closing at 9 o’clock,” he said. “We will stay open to midnight on Fridays and •Saturdays, but if there is a game on a Sunday night or Monday night, we will stay open until the game is over.”••Over the years, Greg and Mark said they have made connections with boutique cigar companies, allowing 1911 Cigars to have a diverse selection of cigars, including brands such as Drew Estate and Padrón Cigars.
Greg said 1911 Cigars takes pride in the diverse customer base and creates an environment where everyone is welcome. The lounge also breaks the stereotype that only men enjoy cigars, he said.
“We have more women that come in here than some of the other clubs in San Antonio, even some of the other clubs in Texas,” Greg said.
