1. Sonterra Road Extension project
Project: Part of the city of San Antonio’s 2022-2027 bond program, work includes widening the road into a four-lane roadway that leads to Loop 1604. The project also added a roundabout at the intersection of East Sonterra Boulevard and Gold Canyon Road. Additional upgrades include a raised center median; roadway lighting in the median; a 6-foot sidewalk; a 12-foot shared-use path; two 11-foot left lanes; two 12-foot right lands; an extension of the roadway to connect with the Community Bible Church northern driveway; and drainage improvements.
Update: According to city documents, construction workers have completed the first layer of asphalt and begun flatwork for Phase I, and constructed the roundabout, sidewalks and shared-use path. Additionally, the contractor has completed the installation of the storm sewer system and has completed the SAWS water line relocation and tie-in. For Phase 2 and 3, roadway grading and site preparation is ongoing.

2. Vance Jackson Road (Huebner Road to Wurzbach Road) project
Project: Part of the city of San Antonio’s 2022-2027 bond program, work includes a series of roadway improvements, such as adding a consistent two-way center turn lane, building improved sidewalks and a shared-use-path and installing underground drainage to low-water-crossings. The project on Vance Jackson Road stretches from Huebner Road to Wurzbach Road.
Update: The project is currently in the design phase and is estimated to begin construction in 2027

3. Fox Run Area Drainage project
Project: Part of the city of San Antonio’s 2022-2027 bond program, the project includes the installation of an interceptor drainage channel and associated improvements.
Update: The project is currently in design phase, the project will construct drainage behind residences between Fox Peak Drive and Fox Creek Street

4. I-35 Northeast Expansion south project
Project: TxDOT is expanding approximately 20 miles of I-35 from North Walters Street to FM 11032 in Bexar County. Phase 1 of the I-35 NEX south project includes designing, constructing and maintenance of 4.2 miles of non-tolled improvements along I-35 and runs through northeast San Antonio and adjacent roadways to Windcrest in Bexar County.
Update: According to the TxDOT website, work includes the construction of three elevated lanes, including two mainlanes and one high-occupancy vehicle in each direction. These lanes will provide a direct connection to I-410 South at the I-35/I-410 South interchange.

5. Loop 1604 North Expansion project
Project: TxDOT is transforming 23-miles of Loop 1604 in North Bexar County. The $1.4 billion project includes plans for six segments of construction of Loop 1604. Construction includes expanding Loop 1604 from a four lane expressway to a 10-lane expressway, the addition of two general purpose lanes in each direction, the addition of a high-occupancy lane in each direction and adding direct connectors.
Update: According to the TxDOT website, construction of segment three, which runs from I-10 to US 281, began in 2021 and is estimated to be completed in 2026. Segment 4, which runs from US 281 and Redland Road began construction in 2024 and is estimated to be completed in 2027. Construction of all funded segments is occurring simultaneously.
