The Texas Department of Transportation announced a series of road closures as part of its Loop 1604 North Expansion project.

The overview

According to TxDOT, a series of closures will occur on Loop 1604, I-10 and nearby frontage roads for demolition work, bridge construction, traffic barrier installation, flyover ramp construction and bypass bridge construction.

Weeknight lane closures
  • Both directions, including turnarounds at the Loop 1604 and Hausman Road intersection will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for demolition work and bridge construction
  • Both directions, including turnarounds, at the Loop 1604 and Kyle Seale Parkway intersection will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for demolition work and bridge construction
  • Both directions, including turnarounds, at Loop 1604 and La Cantera Parkway/John Peace Boulevard intersection will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for demolition work and bridge construction
  • A lane of the Loop 1604 westbound frontage road lane closure from the I-10 interchange to John Peace Boulevard/La Cantera Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for flyover ramp bridge construction
  • A main lane of Loop 1604 eastbound from Bandera Road to Kyle Seale Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for milling and paving operations
  • A main lane of Loop 1604 from Kyle Seale Parkway to Bandera Road will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for milling and paving operations
  • The westbound Loop 1604 exit ramp to La Cantera Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for flyover ramp bridge construction
  • The Loop 1604 eastbound exit ramp to I-10 eastbound will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for flyover ramp bridge construction
  • The I-10 eastbound exit ramp to Loop 1604 westbound will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for bypass bridge construction
  • The I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound ramp/cloverleaf will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for bypass bridge construction
  • There will be alternating lane closures on Loop 1604 eastbound from Bandera Road to I-10 from Bandera Road to I-10 from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for portable concrete traffic barrier installation
  • There will be alternating lane closures on Loop 1604 westbound from I-10 to Bandera Road from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for portable concrete barrier installation
  • Alternating lanes on Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road from Bandera Road to I-10 will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Jan. 12-20 for portable concrete traffic barrier installation
  • Alternating lanes on Loop 1604 westbound frontage road from I-10 to Bandera Road will be closed from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Jan. 12-20 for portable concrete traffic barrier installation
Long-term closures
  • The Loop 1604 westbound to eastbound turnaround at La Cantera Parkway/John Peace Boulevard will be closed until Jan. 20 for retaining wall construction
  • The Loop 1604 eastbound turnaround at Kyle Seale Parkway will be closed until Jan. 20 for bridge construction and retaining wall construction
  • Loop 1604 westbound turnaround at Chase Hill Boulevard and Brennan Avenue will be closed until Jan. 20 for bridge construction and retaining wall construction
The background

The Loop 1604 North Expansion project in North Bexar County is a $1.4 billion investment and includes 23 miles of improvements. The project is designed to increase mobility, reduce congestion and enhance safety and will be constructed in six segments. The Texas Transportation Commission designated the Loop 1604 North Expansion project a part of the statewide Texas Clear Lanes initiative, which is designed to address the most congested areas in the state.


The project includes the following improvements:
  • Expanding Loop 1604 from a four-lane expressway to 10-lane expressway with the addition of two general purpose lanes in each direction
  • Adding one high-occupancy vehicle lane in each direction
  • Reconfiguring the layout of auxiliary lanes and entrance and exit ramps
  • Removing the cloverleaf connectors
  • Replacing the cloverleaf interchange at IH 10/Loop 1604 with a five-level direct connect interchange
  • Adding direct connectors
  • Replacing the signalized frontage road intersections with a continuous flow configuration
  • Adding accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians and water quality protection
