Contractors overseeing the expansion and improvements of Northwest Military Highway in Shavano Park are shifting traffic lanes during daytime hours through April 5.

Current situation

Shavano Park city officials said the project contractor, Dan Williams Co., will shut down either northbound or southbound outside lanes as needed 7 a.m.-6 p.m. daily through April 5.

Local officials said work crews will close one lane in either direction at a time and shift traffic onto the center two-way left-turn lane to maintain two-way traffic flow at all times.

According to city officials, the lane closures will be used weather permitting, and any weather-delayed work will be picked up the same day if possible.

Representatives with Texas Department of Transportation said the contractor is taking final steps to wrap up a nearly 3-year-old project.

The state-supported project will result in a widened Northwest Military Highway, drainage upgrades, new sidewalks, bicycle lanes and medians, a traffic signal at Pond Hill Road, and a center-turn lane on the north-south corridor, TxDOT officials said.
