Beginning Sept. 5 and through December, two sections of lower Broadway Street will be closed for roadway reconstruction as part of a 2017 San Antonio bond project.
The two closed sections are on Broadway from Fourth Street to McCullough Avenue and from Sixth Street to Brooklyn Avenue, according to a news release.
The intersection of Broadway at McCullough will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic on McCullough throughout this closure.
The closures are coordinated to maintain access to all businesses along and near the lower Broadway corridor. Drivers will be able to enter either via Broadway or its side streets, according to the release. Signage will alert drivers of the detour route.
Pedestrians will have access along existing sidewalks on both sides. City officials said they have met and will continue to talk with area stakeholders to ensure they are receiving support, information and resources during this closure period, according to the release.
The intersection of Broadway and East Jones Avenue is now open to northbound and southbound traffic on Broadway. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Jones remains closed through until September for overhead and underground work.
This Broadway improvement project is set for completion in summer 2024.
