San Antonio City Council on Dec. 15 adopted Phase 1 of the Bandera Road corridor plan, the first such corridor plan developed under the guidance of the city’s SA Tomorrow comprehensive plan.

According to a news release, the planning process for the Bandera Road corridor plan was initiated in 2019 and is part of the city’s effort to implement a long-range comprehensive plan, which was approved in 2016 by the council.

Since April 2019, the city has collaborated with residents, business owners and area stakeholders for this plan, which outlines recommendations for multimodal transportation, future land use, economic development and urban design for the Bandera Road corridor from Loop 410 to Loop 1604, the release said.

“The [city’s] planning department and stakeholders deserve a tremendous round of applause. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication to this project,” District 7 Council Member Ana Sandoval said in a statement.

The development of this work aligned with Texas Department of Transportation’s engineering study and recommendations for traffic improvements along the same portion of Bandera Road, city officials said.

“The planning process for this corridor plan invited hundreds of residents, business owners and stakeholders throughout the last three years. We thank all who participated in this process since 2019 for their support and collaboration,” Assistant City Planning Director Rudy Niño Jr. said.

City officials said the adopted plan will serve as a guide to be used by the council, city departments, partner agencies, private entities and community partners to improve the Bandera Road corridor area.
