Contractors working on the improvement and expansion of Northwest Military Highway through Shavano Park are conducting activities that are resulting in new, temporary detours through October.

Work crews on Oct. 10 began closing side streets between Long Bow and Broken Bough Lane in order to lay asphalt to accommodate pavement reconstruction on the west side lanes of Northwest Military.

Detours affecting the roads between Long Bow and Broken Bough were expected to last through Oct. 14, the city of Shavano Park said.

The following streets are to be closed, individually, for one-week periods: Elm Spring, Warbler Way North and Warbler Way South.

Additionally, contractors will be installing street mass arms across Northwest Military at Pond Hill Road beginning 11 a.m. Oct. 14, prompting a partial closure of Northwest Military.

City officials said one half of the road will be closed at a time during this installation.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the state-funded expansion and improvement of Northwest Military in Shavano Park is scheduled for completion in early 2024.
