The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the District 8 City Council office will hold a Trails and Trees event 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Eisenhower Park, 19399 N.W. Military Hwy. Admission is free to the public.

The event celebrates both the completion of the Salado Creek and Leon Creek greenway trail connections and Texas Arbor Day, according to a news release.

The completion of this trail connection marks a milestone for the citywide Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System, which has been under development for 20 years. In all, 86 miles of greenway trails are now complete.

The outdoor event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Eisenhower Park trailhead, involving Mayor Ron Nirenberg, District 8 Council Member Manny Peláez, Parks and Recreation Director Homer Garcia III, interim Arts and Culture Director Krystal Jones, and former Spurs star Manu Ginobili.

The ceremony will be followed by a bicycle tour, tree adoptions, hands-on nature education activities and a special presentation by the Tree Circus.

In addition, food trucks on-site will include coffee and hot chocolate from The Pour Box and hot dogs from The Hotdogologist for purchase.

Guests may enjoy a free paleta from Holypops while supplies last.
