Current situation
CAM officials said they aim to raise $100,000 in August; if they are successful, the ministry will receive a matching grant of $100,000 from the Wade Richmond Foundation, which Jack and Laura Richmond started in memory of their son Wade, who died of a seizure as a high school senior in 1984. The foundation has given more than 20 matching grants to local charities, totaling more than $4 million in financial support.

What they’re saying
According to a news release, the foundation chooses new grantees each year, with selections guided by one of Jack Richmond’s favorite sayings: “We should love each other. That means caring for your neighbors, where those in mourning are comforted, where the hungry are fed, where the poor hear good news. Our foundation strives to give energy to those angels among us who are actively caring for such neighbors.”
CAM provides food, clothing and other critical services to people experiencing economic disadvantages from its campus downtown and in northwest San Antonio.
Dawn White-Fosdick, CAM’s president and CEO, said community members’ contributions help the ministry throughout the year, but donations made in August will help make a larger impact.
“The Richmonds very much appreciated that we provide basic needs to people in crisis situations, like food, clothing and financial assistance,” White-Fosdick said in a statement. “The timing for this fundraising effort is especially helpful since the expenses of summer, like utilities and child care, create added financial burdens for people who are already struggling.”
