Jiffy Lube of San Antonio, part of the chain of auto oil change shops, bestowed its #Drive2DoMore award to a volunteer with a local animal welfare nonprofit.

According to a release, the Jiffy Lube is honoring Bethany McEntire, a Northwest Side resident who has been volunteering with San Antonio Pets Alive! since spring 2018.

SAPA is a volunteer-driven organization that works to save animals at risk of euthanasia at area kill facilities. Many SAPA volunteers also serve as pet foster parents.

McEntire has been fostering animals and transporting dogs from the city of San Antonio’s animal boarding facility near the San Antonio Zoo to medical facilities to get their health certificates, usually being one of the first people to volunteer her time, the release said.

She volunteers to transport animals multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day, often driving at least 100 miles each week, the release added.

Established in 2019, the #Drive2DoMore award honors volunteers using their vehicle to make a difference in their community, according to the release. In the nearly four years that Bethany has been volunteering with San Antonio Pets Alive!, she has driven more than 400 miles per month—one-third of the average total that Americans spend driving monthly—and a total of nearly 21,000 miles.

As a gift, Jiffy Lube of San Antonio is providing McEntire with one year’s worth of vehicle maintenance services. Additionally, select Jiffy Lube locations across San Antonio are partnering with San Antonio Pets Alive! throughout December to collect pet supplies in donation boxes.

McEntire said she was surprised by Jiffy Lube’s honor.

“Helping San Antonio Pets Alive! has such a personal tie to me as a pet owner, and volunteering over the past few years has truly been such a joy,” McEntire said. “I’m so grateful to be recognized for my work with these animals and the impact that this charity has on the community.”
