The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group Orthopaedics & Spine announced March 30 it is partnering with Tampa, Florida-based US Bioskills to launch Burkhart Bioskills Lab inside TSAOG’s Ridgewood Orthopaedic Center, located near North US 281 and Redland Road. The 2,600-square-foot training facility is scheduled to open in April.

US BioSkills Lab Manager Chris McDermott said his company is happy to play a role in improving medical research and education in orthopedics and other medical specialties.

“Our facility is equipped to provide surgical skills training for anyone in the health care industry,” McDermott said.

According to a news release, the Bioskills lab will enable medical trainees and health care providers to participate in comprehensive clinical training.

TSAOG Chief Scientist Dr. Mike Proffitt said the lab is unique to the region and includes multiple wet lab stations and conference rooms.

“The addition of The Burkhart BioSkills Laboratory establishes TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine as a premier site for medical treatment and training.” Proffitt said.

The news release said US Bioskills will operate and manage the Burkhart Bioskills Lab. US Bioskills has other locations in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Las Vegas.

US Bioskills CEO Derek Pupello said Bioskills labs allow attendees to participate in realistic training and learn cutting-edge developments in health care.

"Every year, thousands of health care professionals visit our facilities and make a significant impact on medical research, education and training worldwide,” Pupello said.
