District 10 council member Marc Whyte has submitted a council consideration request proposing the development of a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence Integration Strategy.

The overview

According to a May 30 news release, Whyte’s proposal is intended to ensure that the city is taking the necessary steps to implement AI in an effective and responsible manner.

The proposal calls for the city manager to evaluate and provide recommendations on the creation of a municipal AI plan. Additionally, the plan would explore how other cities and agencies have successfully implemented AI and would identify best practices, ensuring proper security and privacy measures are taken.

The proposed initiative would include:
  • A structural review of other cities’ AI programs
  • The potential designation of a city official to oversee AI use
  • Integration recommendations
  • A proposed implementation timeline
Quote of note

“This is about positioning San Antonio for the future,” Whyte said. “A thoughtful, citywide AI strategy will help us improve service delivery, streamline operations, and maintain transparency as we adopt new technologies.”
