San Antonio City Council green lights Treble Creek Trailhead

As part of the 102.5-mile-long Howard W. Peak Greenway Trails System, San Antonio City Council voted to authorize a $1.5 million contract with Abelar Incorporated to construct a connector trail to the Salado Creek Greenway System during its April 17 meeting.

Located northwest of Loop 1604 and Rogers Ranch Parkway in District 9, the project will construct a new 0.60-mile-long, 10-foot-wide concrete trail between Treble Creek and the Salado Creek Greenway. According to city documents, the trailhead will provide several nearby neighborhoods bikeable and walkable access to the larger trail system.

Bexar County signals support for Great Springs Trail Network


During its April 8 meeting, the Bexar County Commissioners Court heard a presentation from the Great Springs Project, which seeks to create a trail system from the Alamo to the Capitol building in Austin.

Presented by Gary Merritt, the GSP chief executive officer, and Sara Villarreal, the GSP director of program strategy, the presentation outlined the early stages of the proposed trail system that will connect springs in Bexar, Comal, Hays and Travis counties. The trail system would also protect valuable land along the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
