During its Jan. 27 meeting, Shavano Park City Council approved a grant application for the FY2026 State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program.

The overview

According to a state government website, the grant program supports cybersecurity efforts that address imminent threats to local information.

The SLCGP grant supports four objectives, which seek to develop cybersecurity protections in local governments.

SLCGP objectives:
  • Governance and planning: develop and establish appropriate governance structures, such as developing, implementing and revising cybersecurity plants
  • Assessment and evaluation: understand the current cybersecurity capabilities and areas of improvement based on continuous testing, evaluation and structured assessments
  • Mitigation: implement security protections
  • Workforce development: appropriately train personnel in cybersecurity


All SLCGP projects must conform to the approved state plan.

Eligible activities and costs:
  • Enhanced logging
  • Security assessments
  • Automated asset discovery
  • Vulnerability scanning
  • Penetration testing


Projects selected for funding must begin on or after Sept. 1, 2025 and may not exceed a 12-month period.

The breakdown


According to a state website, funding has a minimum of $10,000 and no maximum. The match requirement for local governments is 20%.

  • Dec. 16, 2024: funding announcement release and online system opening
  • Feb. 13: final date to submit an application
  • Sept. 1: earliest project start date
