San Antonio City Council voted to approve an ordinance to allow peer-to-peer vehicle sharing companies to operate at the San Antonio International Airport during its Nov. 21 meeting.

In a nutshell

According to city documents, the ordinance authorizes an agreement between peer-to-peer transportation companies and SA Airport to allow vehicle owners to rent their vehicles to patrons through an online application.

To participate in peer-to-peer vehicle sharing, owners must:
  • Operate within the peer-to-peer network
  • Pass the company’s trust and safety screenings
  • Pass a criminal background and public records search
  • Operate in designated areas only
  • Maintain a clean and safe vehicle
The agreement has an initial term of one year with an option to extend the contract for two additional one-year periods. SA Airport will receive 10% of gross receipts, which will be deposited into the Airport Operating and Maintenance Fund.
