According to a press release, Vargas is a 17-year veteran of the auditor's office, and was chosen after a competitive selection process.
“Buddy Vargas has shown unwavering dedication and exceptional skill over his 17 years with the city. I am confident he will excel in this new role as city auditor, bringing a wealth of expertise to our city,” Nirenberg said.
Vargas has held key positions throughout his tenure with the city, including six years as senior auditor staff and 11 years as audit manager. He is a certified public accountant, internal auditor and fraud examiner. He also holds both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
