John Courage, San Antonio District 9 council member, will hold a voluntary weapons exchange at the Alamodome, 100 Montana St., from noon-5 p.m. Nov. 24.

What you need to know

Participating residents will drive up to parking lot B on the South Cherry Street side of the Alamodome and exchange their firearms for H-E-B gift cards.

Guns must be unloaded and placed in the back of the vehicle. Residents will remain inside their vehicles while San Antonio police officers secure and assess the weapons. Staff will determine the value of the collected firearms and provide the resident with gift cards equal to the value.

Additionally, residents may also exchange ammunition.

The exchange is limited to 10 weapons per vehicle, and is not limited to San Antonio residents. Toy, ghost, prop or broken guns will not receive gift cards but can still be surrendered.
