According to a March 1 news release, residents may provide ideas and questions about the city charter amendment process digitally, by phone, or by attending one or all of the commission’s scheduled meetings.
City officials said the city charter can be amended to add new procedures, protocols and policies. The Charter Review Commission includes community members with expertise in areas such as municipal law, finance, education, public policy and community engagement.

The release stated commission members are asked to research and gather community members’ input to recommend any charter changes. Council will vote whether to place any proposed amendments on the November general election ballot.
City officials said the commission will discuss the following overarching topics:
- Independent ethics officer and review board
- City Council compensation and term length
- City manager tenure and compensation
- City Council districts and redistricting
- Language updates to reflect current laws and processes
The commission is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. March 4 and 21, and April 11 and 25 at the Central Library, 600 Soledad St.
City officials said residents may visit www.saspeakup.com/charterreviewcommission to leave a comment or sign up to speak at an upcoming session. Additionally, residents can call 311, or 210-207-6000, to leave comments by phone.

Commission co-chairs Bonnie Prosser Elder and David Zammiello issued a joint statement, saying they look forward to hearing from residents during the city charter amendment process.
“These are a great way to learn more about the City Charter, hear the commission’s recommendations and provide important input,” Prosser and Zammiello said in the statement.
