CPS Energy is asking the public for feedback on its plans to replace aging power plants and whether to continue operating its coal-powered units as the municipal utility continues to plan for population growth, CPS Energy spokesperson Christine Patmon said.

“Our generation planning process will identify the types of power generation resources to be added over the next several years,” Patmon said.

CPS Energy will work with the rate advisory committee to look at generation planning options and is slated to make a recommendation on a new generation plan to the CPS Energy board of trustees in late 2022.

Patmon said planning objectives include system reliability, customer affordability, environmental sustainability and other factors.

To participate in the “Powering Our Community’s Future” initiative, CPS Energy customers can attend a virtual town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at www.cpsenergy.com/watchlive.

CPS Energy is also conducting a survey here. The deadline to provide feedback is 11:59 p.m. Dec. 9. A summary of survey results can be found here.
