Starting May 1, Hollywood Park residents, non-swimming pool members and out-of-town visitors wanting to spend some time at the Voigt Park pool will begin paying revised fees.

The city is also considering what to do with the Voigt Park basketball court, which has been abused mainly by nonresidential visitors, city authorities said.

City Council on Feb. 15 approved a new pool fee schedule, which is part of a larger city effort to manage larger pool crowds, especially those largely made up of nonresidential guests.

City officials say because Voigt Park and its swimming pool are open to the public, it is common for many Hollywood Park residents to bring to the pool a non-pool member as well as relatives, friends and colleagues from out-of-town.

However, local officials have said it s important to prioritize residential use and improve overall safety around the pool.

“I’m good with all of these prices really,” Council Member Debbie Trueman said.

Residential pool pricing in the 2022 pool fee schedule:

  • Individual season pass: $80 (regular); $40 (discounted for senior citizens age 65 and up and active military); $5 (for a resident’s guest)

  • Family season pass: $200 (for up to six family members and $30 for each additional family member); $100 (senior or military discount includes $15 for each additional family member); $5 (guest of a resident with a family season pass or punch card)

  • Punch card: $20 (each resident, good for five entrances); $10 (discounted for seniors and military)

  • Gate entry fee: $5 (resident without a season pass or punch card)

  • Free entry for Hollywood Park children age 3 and under

Nonresidential pool pricing:

  • Individual season pass: $200

  • Family season pass: $500 (up to six family members, $80 for each additional family member)

  • Gate entry fee: $20 (for a nonresident without a season pass)

  • Free entry for nonresident children age 3 and under

City officials said season passes and punch cards are available for purchase at City Hall, 2 Mecca Drive, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

According to a city brochure, the Voigt Park pool is open Saturdays and Sundays only in May, and then 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays from June 1 through Sept. 30.

City Council previously approved other changes at the pool, including requiring all visitors to sign a log upon entry; using an unarmed security guard; and requiring all visitors to wear a wristband at all times around the pool.

Additionally, the city is prohibiting alcoholic drinks, smoking and vaping around the pool, according to recent council action.

Council Member Glenna Pearce said some of the new fees affecting nonresidential use could discourage a disproportionate number of out-of-town guests.

“It’s a benefit of living in this area, the ability to bring a friend to the pool,” Pearce said.

Council Member Sean Moore said he thought the revised nonresidential fees are fair.

“If a resident is trying to bring in guests, they should pay more, frankly, in my opinion,” Moore said.
