The following nine events are happening in San Antonio between the end of August and into September. Additional information about each event can be found on each event's respective website. This list is not comprehensive.

August

San Japan

San Japan 15, which organizers claim as the biggest anime and gaming convention in South Texas, will take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and neighboring San Antonio Grand Hyatt in downtown San Antonio. The family friendly event will have cosplay, guest artists and celebrities, contests, an arcade gaming area, panel discussions, autograph signings, musical performances and dozens of vendors dealing pop culture merchandise.

Collectibles show

Eckman’s Card, Comic and Toy Show will have several vendors selling, buying and trading sports and nonsports collectibles, comic books, toys, and other pop culture memorabilia.

Library exhibit


Artist Marcos Mares will exhibit his new works, titled “Viaje Onirico,” at the Central Library in downtown San Antonio. The exhibit, which conveys a dreamlike world, is part of Hispanic Heritage Month activities at the San Antonio Public Library.

Frontline Heroes Appreciation Month

For the entire month of September 2024, the San Antonio Zoo will offer free admission for all current doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, and EMT professionals and 50% off any day tickets for up to four of their guests on the day of visit. Valid credentials must be presented at the gate.

Select 210 Artisan Market will feature several local artisans selling handmade artworks, crafts, home decor and foods.

Second Thursdays at McNay Art Museum

The McNay Art Museum offers free admission on the second Thursday of each month from 4-9 p.m. The family event will feature food trucks, a kids activity and live music by Tejano singer Santiago Jimenez Jr. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio will have Robi Jalnos talk about his father Stephan Jalnos, who shared stories of survival during World War II and the Holocaust.
