Auditions for two holiday children’s ballet productions, a mini-pop culture convention and a pet adoption event are among the featured activities happening around San Antonio during the final weekend of August.

Parman Library at Stone Oak is hosting “A Journey Within,” a display of art by local artist Marcus Cerda, during regular library hours through Sept. 26.

Aug. 25 and 26

Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will hold open auditions for “The Children’s Nutcracker,” which will be performed Dec. 8 and 9 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. All performers ages 3-19 are invited to register online for an audition time. “The Children's Nutcracker” is looking for ballet, tap, folklorico, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dancers, along with gymnasts, actors and vocalists.

Ballet San Antonio will have open auditions for the children’s cast of its 2023 production of “The Nutcracker."Auditions are open to local children ages 6-18. Approximately 100 children will be cast in the Christmastime production as soldiers, mice, angels and more, and will perform alongside the professional Ballet San Antonio adult cast.

Dozens of vendors will offer a variety of pop culture collectibles, from comic books and toys to video games and posters at Retro Con. There will also be celebrities and a costume contest.
