A high school sports pep rally, pet-friendly happenings and some fine arts activities are among the events scheduled during the third weekend of August in San Antonio.

Aug. 18

Reagan High School will host the Rattler Roundup, where loved ones, friends and the public may meet RHS student-athletes and spirit team members who will be competing and performing in this new school year. An optional dinner takes place in the campus cafeteria before the pep rally at the football field.

Aug. 19

Nala and Friends Dog Rescue will have a pet adoption event at Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming Stone Oak, including free pet treats and free human snacks. Additionally, a caricature artist will be doing free pet caricatures for anyone that buys $20 or more in merchandise in the Woof Gang boutique.Aug. 19

Dog Guide San Antonio will present Fido Film Fest, a family-friendly summer evening for pet owners at Legacy Park. A dog-themed movie will be screened while vendors offer various pet products. There will also be free drinks and dog toys and other giveaways.Aug. 20


San Antonio Youth Ballet will present a fundraiser, Ballet Brunch and Ball, featuring various dining options, a silent auction, a formal presentation about SAYB's upcoming season, a dance performance and a ball. VIP ticketholders will have a social hour option. This event is open to all ages, and hopeful young dancers are not only welcome, but encouraged.Aug. 20

Briscoe Western Art Museum will screen the Western sci-fi horror movie “Nope” as part of the museum’s summer film series. There will be popcorn and complimentary beer. Preregistration is encouraged.Aug. 25 and 26

Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will hold open auditions for “The Children’s Nutcracker,” which will be performed Dec. 8 and 9 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre. All performers ages 3-19 are invited to register online for an audition time. “The Children's Nutcracker” is looking for ballet, tap, folklorico, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dancers, along with gymnasts, actors and vocalists.

San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture will have a screening of short films from local African American filmmakers as part of the ongoing exhibit “Between Yesterday & Tomorrow: Perspectives from Black Contemporary Artists of San Antonio.”
