Barshop Jewish Community Center of San Antonio will host staged readings of “Finding Helena,” an original musical written by a team of local residents who said they hope to take their production to Broadway. The story follows Helena, the daughter of a Nazi officer in Poland, who falls in love with Ari, a Jewish resistance fighter. Actors will be on stage with a live band, reading from their scripts and singing all the songs. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The 29th San Antonio Film Festival will screen more than 200 independent films at three locations citywide. Some screenings include special themed activities, and there will be some panel discussions.

Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy will have a storytime program where young families can learn about water from San Antonio Water System representatives, walk around and look at water features in the park, and create a painting of the sky and clouds.

The Public Theater of San Antonio will present performances of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Merrily We Roll Along,” which traces the lives of wealthy, jaded composer Franklin Shepard and his two estranged friends through each milestone of their personal and professional lives.

“Celebrate Fantastic Flora” is one of the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s family-friendly events that are part of SABG’s current “Imaginary Worlds” exhibit. Attendees may explore a botanical theme at activity stations with garden educators.
