Classic Theatre of San Antonio will present performances of “Peter and the Starcatcher.” Based on the young-adult adventure novels by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, "Peter and the Starcatcher” serves as a prequel to “Peter Pan” as Peter and his companions are taken to a magical realm with mermaids, pirates and starstuff where dreams take flight and possibilities are endless.

Teatro Audaz San Antonio will present performances of "The Ghosts of Lote Bravo.” A play based in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, "The Ghosts of Lote Bravo.” follows Juanda Cantu's journey to find answers and healing after her daughter's murder.

The Carver Community Cultural Center will host a showcase involving local dance students ages 10-18 who spent much of July in a summer dance workshop in collaboration with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. The dance students received extensive training in ballet, modern, contemporary and West African dance taught by professional choreographers and dancers from DBDT.

The Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy will present a nature walk where Texas Master Naturalist Josie Gonzales will discuss ethnobotany—how people of a particular culture and region make use of native plants. There will be a brief overview of ethnobotanical concepts before the walk. On the walk itself, a wide variety of forbs, shrubs and trees will be discussed from the standpoint of medicinal, utilitarian and nutritional uses. Visitors are urged to wear closed-toe shoes, dress for the weather and bring water to drink.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum will celebrate National Day of the Cowboy. The community event includes free admission to the museum and its exhibitions as well as indoor and outdoor activities. Cowboys of all ages can enjoy live music, games, crafts, a chuck wagon with cowboy treats, artist demonstrations and other hands-on activities. Preregistration is urged.

Project MEND—which stands for Medical Equipment Network for those with Disabilities—will host a medical equipment donation drive. Guests are invited to donate old, broken or no longer needed medical equipment for reuse. Most needed equipment includes wheelchairs, rollators, tub transfer benches, power chairs and home hospital beds. The event will feature games, refreshments, music and prizes.

A film documentary produced by San Antonio nonprofit Musical Bridges Around the World, “The Quilt: A Living History of African American Music” will receive its local red-carpet premiere at the Carver Community Cultural Center. The film explores the history of African American musical culture from slavery times to the present day.
